Frequently Asked Questions

Can't find your answer?

Contact Us
Can Y strainers be installed vertically?

Yes. Y strainers can be installed horizontally or vertically. When installed vertically, ensure the screen cap points downward so debris collects by gravity for easy blowdown.

Where should I install a Y strainer in my fuel system?

Install upstream of pumps, meters, and nozzles to protect them from tank sediment. For best results, install after the tank outlet valve and before the first pump in your transfer line.

How often should the screen be cleaned?

Check and clean the screen every 3-6 months depending on fluid cleanliness. New tank installations may need more frequent cleaning in the first few months as construction debris clears.

What is the pressure drop across this strainer?

Pressure drop varies by size and flow rate. Y strainers have a slightly higher pressure drop than basket strainers of the same size due to the smaller screen area. Contact us for specific Cv data.
